  • SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOL

For long our society has ignored the needs and rights of the intellectually challenged believing “there is no solution for their problem”. As our society progressed, we have seen a drastic change in the mindset of people. We understand how essential it is to address the special needs of a child facing various challenges. From a society that shunned the intellectually challenged we have become a progressive society that considers with importance their rights and ensures they are provided with everything needed to have an equal standing in life, with the rest of us.

In 1997, the Government of India established a policy of inclusive education through District Primary EducationProgramme (DPEP). The prevailing Indian situation resources are insufficient even to provide quality mainstream schools for children. From the current scenario we can understand that it is impracticable to make children with special needs live and learn in the mainstream schoolsdue to lack of trained personnel and resources.

In a highly competitive atmosphere where the race for ranks and university admissions takes prime importance, making room for the individual needs of an underprivileged child takes a backseat. This has made it difficult for the intellectually challenged to adjust to a regular classroom where his potential is unrecognised and measured on an uneven scale.

This dearth of resources and knowledge of practicing inclusive education has made Special Needs Schools relevant in our society. Special Needs Schools provide an environment that offer these children education and therapy that cater to their individual needs.
