LILLY follows the syllabus prescribed by Kerala SCERT for Special Education. The curriculum comprises of activities and learning programs based on this syllabus which is primarily for behaviour and skill development. Along with this, the special educators at LILLY prepare Individualised Education Program for each student based on their aptitude, capabilities and needs. IEP is unique for each student and it is not a standalone syllabus. IEP is designed to assist the instruction of the SCERT syllabus and to ensure measurable annual goals and objectives for the child's education.
We have a physiotherapist who works with children of all ages focusing on the treatment of physical challenges. Physiotherapy has a positive and significant impact on pulmonary function, motor control, muscle strength, and physical endurance children with chronic conditions such as cerebral palsy and juvenile arthritis.
Our rehabilitation therapist helps children that struggle doing the little things. Daily activities most people take for granted such as sitting up, bathing, feeding and other basic necessities can sometimes be a struggle for children with special needs.Rehabilitation helps a child to be as independent as possible in everyday activities and enables participation in education, work and recreation. It involves a set of interventions designed to optimize functioning and reduce disability in the child while interacting with their environment.
Along with physical, sensory and cognitive problems a large number is special needs children face challenges in correct speech and articulation. Speech therapy improves overall communication, enhances social skills, enables to cope up better with their surroundings and daily activities. It is also an essential process in early intervention. LILLY has a qualified speech therapist who recommendsand monitors the speech therapy requirements for each student.
For our senior students over the age of 18 years we provide vocational training suited to their individual skill sets and interest. Our students make paper bags, medicine covers, dishwash, floor cleaner, handwash and detergent. Vocational training helps our students in skill building and developing sustainable employment opportunities and be financially independent. Our aims to train students in various skill-based activities to help them understand the concept of a job and job-related functional activities. Continuing education of daily activities and life roles are also provided to our young adults for promoting self-reliance and independence.
We have badminton and cricket training modified for our special needs children and young adults. Each student is chosen for a sports activity based on their particular physical ability. We provide training in cricket, badminton, athletics, handball and band practice and marching.
